Football gifts for children who love the beautiful game

Looking for children’s football gifts? Read our guide about football gifts for children and treat your child to a present they will love.

Parents giving child a present

Whether it’s a birthday or a Christmas gift for children who love football, there are lots of great presents that parents can treat their children to. Many of us have football-mad kids, and the good news is that there is no shortage of football-related gifts for children available. Discover some of the best football gifts for children in our guide, from the equipment they can use on the field or at the park to football-themed goodies to enjoy at home.

A new football

When it comes to children’s football gifts, sometimes you just can’t go wrong with a new football. Has your child been asking for their own football? Have they recently lost theirs over the neighbour’s fence? Or is their current ball looking a little worse for wear? A new football is bound to put a smile on their face, getting them excited to get out there once again for a kickabout with their mates.

If you have a young child interested in football, getting them a new ball can be a lovely way to share their hobby, allowing you to enjoy playing together in the garden or down the park. You don’t have to get full-size balls either, as there are various sizes which are aimed at younger children.

Football boots/astro turf trainers

Child putting on new football boots

Gifting your child some shiny new football boots is a great option. Children’s feet grow quickly, so there is a good chance they are no longer the perfect fit anyway. Or perhaps their current boots are just a bit long in the tooth.

Whatever the case, your child will feel great turning up for after-school training or a friendly kickabout in their new boots. You could also consider buying them a pair of astro-turf trainers – these are a brilliant option for kids who like to play on concrete surfaces, astro-turf, or even on firm grass. Sometimes, it's just easier than putting on a proper pair of studded football boots.

If you’ve ever been shopping in the vicinity of football boots or astro turfs, there’s a good chance your child has already pointed out the ones they like, so it shouldn’t take too long to pick out the perfect pair.

Personalised shirt

Most football-loving kids dream of owning their club’s home shirt with their favourite player’s name on the back. Getting your child an official jersey would make for the perfect Christmas or birthday present, allowing them to represent their favourite team wherever they are.

If you know their favourite player, all the better, as you can get the name printed on the back along with their squad number. If not, you can always get the shirt and offer to have the player’s name of their choice printed on the back at a later date.

If they already own their club’s home shirt, you could consider getting them the away kit or the national team shirt instead for England, Wales, Scotland or whoever else they support.

Most clubs will offer a player name printing service, or you can get it done at outlets such as Sports Direct.

Training equipment

Boy playing football

If your child is serious about football and is always honing their skills down the park or in the garden, consider getting them some proper football training equipment.

For example, you could get them a football rebounder. These tools are one of the best football gifts for kids, allowing them to practice shooting, passing, and even goalkeeping skills by rebounding the ball off the surface.

Or how about their own football goal? Of course, it doesn’t have to be a full-size goal; you can get mini-goals and folding goals that are perfect for setting up in the garden or taking down to the park.

Other football gear you could consider includes everything from football ladders to free-kick mannequins. Just have a think about what they might use (and what you have room for!).

Books about football

Does your child like to read, or do you spend time reading to your child before bed? Why not include their favourite hobby by buying them a book or two about football?

From simple children’s stories and novellas about football to fascinating biographies about some of the biggest names in the game, there are great football books for kids of all ages.

Parent and blogger Rachel Bustin, has shared her recommendations with us, highlighting two different types of books along with some other tips:

“There are many great gift ideas for a child who loves football. Some popular options include football training gear or football jerseys. But if you are looking for that special football gift, I highly recommend a personalised football jokes and a quiz book. A perfect gift they can learn from yet have lots of fun at the same time on their favourite topic!”

To get some ideas, take a look at the best-selling children’s books about football on Amazon. The list includes a wide array of books, with everything from official club annuals to popular stories by England forward Marcus Rashford.

Football video games

Father and son playing video games

If your child is getting into video games or has been playing them for years, gifting them one of the top football video games is a great way to go.

One of the most popular games is by EA Sports and is released every year. Formally known as FIFA and now as EA Sports FC, your child will have a brilliant time playing this game with friends or alone.

There are also games that allow the player to manage a football team, make the transfers and, pick a starting 11 etc. These games can be bought for the PC or a game console like PlayStation or Xbox, so there are lots of options.

Football-themed products

When it comes to children’s football gifts, sometimes anything football-themed can be a winner. A lot of football-obsessed children want the game to be a part of everything they do.

For example, you can get them an official duvet set from their favourite club or just a generic football-themed bedding cover. Or how about a footie lunch box that they can take to school or a drinks bottle with their club’s badge on it?

You could decorate their room with a football-themed curtain or even get them a backpack from their favourite team’s official store. From large gifts to small presents, there are lots of fun football-related gifts for children available.
