With 11 games per team already played in the Premiership, the 2013/14 season is shaping up to be one hell of a contest.
Around five or six teams look like they could be mounting a considerable campaign that could challenge for the title this season - simply, nothing looks a certainty.
Below we take a look at who the big six clubs (Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and the two Manchester teams) should sign during the January window to enhance their chances of success this season. We apologise to Southampton and Everton for not including them as well...
Arsenal should sign Karim Benzema
Although Olivier Giroud has been exquisite this season, The Gunners are in need of another top quality striker if they are to build on their early success this season. Rumours claim that Real Madrid are looking to off load the Frenchman, who had played with Summer wonder signing Mesut Ozil for many years in Spain.
Liverpool should sign Fernando
If Liverpool are to seriously challenge for the title this season, they will need to bring in a combatative defensive midfielder to give protection to their back four. The not-too-reliable Lucas is the only player The Reds have who can play in this position. Brazilian, Fernando who currently plays at Porto could be the answer to this problem.
Chelsea should sign Mario Balotelli
Many fans, pundits and reporters would love to see the enigmatic Italian return to the Premier League. Add in that Chelsea are definitely missing in this position and Balotelli has already played under Mourinho, this deal is a real possibility. Obviously, if it did happen, this move would upset a fair few on the blue side of Manchester.
Manchester United should sign Ilkay Gundogan
The Red Devils are in need of a technically gifted playmaker as they have looked to be lacking in the centre at times - the Borussia Dortmund player could be the answer. At just 23, he has experience in Europe and won a domestic title in 2012. However, United should be prepared to spend big for his services as Dortmund will not let him leave on the cheap.
Tottenham should sign Andrea Pirlo
Having signed a collection of young, promising talent during the summer, Spurs are yet to reap the rewards this season. They have come under criticism for not utilising the attacking options at their disposal. Experienced playmaker Pirlo may be the player they need to unlock defences. They should sign him on an 18 month deal.
Manchester City should sign Eliaquim Mangala
With the current injury worries that continue to trouble City's captain Vincent Kompany and Joe Hart's lack of form, defense is where the Manchester club are weakest. They need to buy a decent centre-half and the centre-half they should buy is French international Mangala. It will cost City £34m to tempt Porto to sell the 22-year-old.
