Gonzalo Higuain has passed a medical in Italy and his £34.5m move from Real Madrid to Napoli is due to be finalised in the coming days.
The Argentine will be joining Rafael Benitez' Italian heroes, despite being heavily linked with Arsenal over the past month and a half. Arsenal will now continue with the pursuit of Luis Suarez.
Higuain, 25, has been bought in as a replacement for Edison Cavani, who joined Paris St-Germain earlier this month for a reported £55m.
Manager Benitez stated to an Italian newspaper about the transfer, "We were looking for a quality player."
Higuain has an impressive scoring record at Real Madrid. Since joining the Bernabeu giants from River Plate in 2006, the striker has managed to notch 107 league goals.
Napoli have used the cash generated from the sale of Cavani to bring in an array of improvements to their squad, including; Real Madrid striker Jose Callejon, defender Raul Albiol and PSV Eindhoven winger Dries Mertens.
On top of this, Benitez will be joined by an old friend next season. Pepe Reina will be joining the club from Liverpool on season-long loan and completed his medical at the same time Higuain did.
