The Weekend of Football History

Three historical football events took place over the weekend- Lampard's 203rd goal, Wigan's FA Cup triumphant and Sir Alex Ferguson final Old Trafford game. Can you remember a weekend of football like it?

If we needed reminding why we love it- this weekend provided us with three historic footballing events to savour for the coming decades.

First, there was Super Frank for Chelsea. The midfielder finally topped Bobby Tamblings record for the most Chelsea goals- scoring his 202nd and 203rd against Aston Villa.

The second came a few hours later on Saturday evening when Wigan lifted the FA Cup. Roberto Martinez's men completely outclassed Man City and won the game 1 - 0 after a injury time header from Ben Watson.

It was over to Old Trafford for the final part of the trio. Manchester United recieved the Premier League title at Sir Alex Ferguson's final home game as manager.

All three were as special to the club, players and fans as the other. Each very nearly produced tears of elation from grown men.

This is exactly why we love football.
