At the beginning of the game Wayne Rooney was presented with his golden cap for, 100 appearances for England. The player ensured he lived up to expectation through his leadership and play throughout the match.
During the first half viewers were not given much to cheer about from either side, as the match looked to be heading for a 0-0 draw.
The second half began with a bad start for England after Henderson scored an own goal in the 57th minute. Although just 2 minutes later Rooney stepped up to score the penalty that put England back level and in doing so became England's joint third highest goal scorer.
Once the penalty was scored Slovenia's defence seemed to be broken and with Welbeck in good form it wasn't long before they conceded another. Raheem Sterling then set Welbeck up for a cool finish late on against (Inter Milan) keeper Samir Handanovic.
Hodgson and his players look to be reinvigorated by their captain, who has commented that England need cool heads for a tough next match against Scotland.
