For the match against Ghana, USA head coach Jurgen Klinsmann choose to change the usual 4-4-2 line up to a 4-4-2 diamond formation, in order to combat Ghana's style of play.
The USA definitely proved Klinsmann's decision to change formation was the correct one, after Dempsey scored in the 1st minute. As soon as he had scored Klinsmann switched back to a flatter 4-4-2 formation in order to defend their lead.
Ghana used their wings to great effect applying a lot of pressure to the USA back line throughout the game. Which resulted in a great André Ayew goal in the 82nd minute. Although the USA showed their resilience after they scored their second goal in the 86th minute through a John Brooks jr header.
This game proved that unlike other recent World Cups the USA are determined to prove they are force to be reckoned with and that despite being placed in one of the toughest groups in the tournament they are looking to qualify.
