Manchester United bid £25m for Fabregas

Following months of speculation about his future, a formal bid has been made for Cesc Fabregas. But the club making the offer is not former club Arsenal, but bitter rivals Manchester United.

Yesterday, Manchester United made a £25m bid for ex-Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas.

David Moyes and United made the bid in an attempt to tempt him away from boyhood club Barcelona. However, Arsenal have first refusal on him at the same price.

It is believed Barcelona are considering the offer but want more money for the Spaniard, who they paid £25m for in August 2011. This is despite Fabregas being third choice central midfielder at the Nou Camp.

In two season at Barcelona, Fabregas has helped the Catalan club win the Copa del Rey and La Liga.

Many believe that if United were to capture Fabregas, it would open the door for Rooney to leave the Manchester club. An exchange deal has also been touted.

No formal comment from the player or either club has been issued, as yet.
