WWC 2015: England vs Colombia Match Review

England took on Colombia yesterday in their final match of Group F and while the lionesses came away with a 2-1 win. Although Colombia scored late on. Both teams now progress to the knockout stages.

England faced Colombia last night in Montreal. The Lionesses managed a 2-1 victory over their opponents in an end-to-end game.

Karen Carney was able to score England's first goal. When Sepulveda parried the ball from an England free-kick, Carney was able to get the ball and score a composed finish. Putting England 1-0 up.

Despite England's lead the game appeared to be a quite open one. With England's front three of Kirby, Carney and Duggan looking particularly dangerous.

However, it was a penalty that allowed England to get their second. When after a scrap in the box Carolina Arias hand-balled it. Giving England a penalty which Fara Williams wilfully converted by putting the ball in the bottom corner.

Colombia did have segments of the game where they showed the same quality with which they beat France. None more so than in the final minutes when Lady Andrade was able to round off a great move with a chip over the England keeper. Ending the match at 2-1.

The results now means England finished 2nd in their group and play Norway in the next round. While Colombia came third with four points, meaning they play the USA.
