The victory against City signalled a good performance from the reds of Manchester and after winning 4 games in a row against the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham, are we beginning to see the rise of Van Gaal's United?
Van Gaal came into a United side that seemed to suffer a turbulent time after Sir Alex Ferguson's departure, finishing in seventh place during the previous season. Questions were immediately asked on the Dutchman's approach after he appeared to be searching for the right formation testing different combinations of 3 and 4 at the back.
Right from the start Van Gaal experienced the harsh reality of English football after not gaining a win during his first four games in charge, including a 4-0 defeat to League One side MK Dons. Which caused many to ask whether he was the right man for United at all.
However, both the United players and fans stuck by the manager, and the press began to warm to his sense of humour. Over the course of the period that followed United were able to attain some good results including a win against Everton in October and a victory against Arsenal in November.
After many tactical changes Van Gaal appears to have chosen a four at the back defence. Despite gaining some good wins since January Van Gaal was scrutinised further for his team's performances.
During the months of March and April the Red devils and Louis Van Gaal appeared to be turning their fortunes around. With the team notching up 5 wins out of 6 and with convincing performances, particularly that of Mata and Fellani. Van Gaal's United are now sittingh just one point off 2nd and the team finally appear to be playing the way Van Gaal wants, impressing both fans and the press alike.
