City smash United

The first Manchester derby of the season saw Manchester City thrash United 4-1. Read the match report here.

Yesterday we saw the first Manchester derby of the season with Moyes managing United and Pellegrini managing City and although Manchester City were at home no one would have believed that they would thrash United 4-1.

United were without Robin Van Persie due to a groin strain. But even in his absence no matter how significant, this cannot account for the manner in which United were completely outclassed.

Moyes, who never managed a derby win at Liverpool in 11 years as Everton manager. Did not find the Etihad any easier as City picked United’s midfield apart, where Toure looked in a different league when compared with United new boy Marouane Fellaini.

The first goal came via Sergio Aguero with a terrific volley in the 15th minute. Yaya Toure scored the next goal on the verge of half time. Aguero scored again, just after half time making the score line 3-0. By this time United knew that their chances of winning were extremely slim. This of course wasn’t helped by Nasri’s volley in the 49th minute. However, United did manage one goal coming through a superb free kick from Wayne Rooney in the 86th minute which still meant a loss for Moyes’ United but gained Rooney the title of scoring the most goals in Manchester derbies with a total of 11.
