After narrowly missing the final spot for Champions League football on the last game of the season to local rivals Arsenal last term, many expected it to be a busy summer for Spurs. But just how active they have been may come as a shock to many.
Of course, much of the transfer gossip doing the rounds at White Hart Lane have surrounded a certain Mr Bale. But whilst that "should he stay or should he go" show rambles on, Daniel Levy and AVB have been building a team ready to challenge anyone in the league.
Spurs have been one of the most proactive clubs this summer. They have moved on players like Clint Dempsey who, in truth, never really fitted in at North London. And added some top quality attacking power in Roberto Soldado, who scored on his league debut from the penalty spot on Sunday.
On top of the recruitment of the Spanish striker, The Lilywhites have looked further afield for talent. The signing of Brazilian Paulinho from Corinthians for £17m was inspired - his ability to control a game in the Premier League was very evident at the weekend.
Add to this that Tottenham have recalled Danny Rose from his loan spell at Sunderland, where he was one of The Black Cats star players last term. They have also signed Etienne Capoue and Nacer Chadli - there is no reason why Boas' boys should not be securing at Champions League spot this season.
Fourth place, yes. But what makes us believe they may be setting their sights even higher this season? In recent days, the clubs have been linked with a £60m swoop for South Americans Willian and Erik Lamela.
At £30m each, both players will be club-record transfer fees. If Spurs capture a couple of players of this unique quality then there should be no reason why they should not be considered as title contenders.
But how, you ask, are Tottenham financing this kind of activity? Bale. Lets not beat around the bush here, Bale looks set for Madrid. The money from that transfer is being used to build a squad of stars, rather than keep just one happy.
You have to respect Daniel Levy and Andre Villas Boas' business this transfer window. And from their neighbours, Arsenal? Still nothing...
