Manchester City vs Wigan: FA Cup Final preview

After a disappointing season in the league for both teams, this may be Manchester City and Wigan's last opportunity to saviour some success. We give you a preview to the FA Cup Final which kicks off on Saturday 11th May at 5.15 pm.

With all the news surrounding Manchester United's change of manager, you could be excused for forgetting that the final of the most prestigious domestic cup in the world will take place this weekend.

The FA Cup Final for the 2012/13 season between Manchester City and Wigan will kick off at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 11th May, 5.15 pm.

For both teams it may be a chance to saviour some success from a season that has been tainted with misery and is looking to be deemed a failure.

So who is going to win the FA Cup?

Lets look at Manchester City first. Obviously, they are the clear favourites, due to their superior squad and form in the competition in recent years- they last won it in 2011.

Along with this, as mentioned previously, Manchester City will deem this season a complete failure if they do not succeed on Saturday

It is now expected by all stakeholders of City and the world's media that the club should be claiming atleast one trophy every season. Plus, their defense of the Premiership title was, in truth, pathetic.

So, the FA Cup is all that Mancini and his men have to play for. And, possibly, all that can save Mancini from the sack.

Now for Wigan, the underdogs. The club that every mutual will be cheering for, come Saturday.

Like Man City, their season seems to be a failure unless they can pull off an impressive win at Wembley.

An elongated stay in the top league of English football looks like it may be coming to an end after the next two league games. Wigan currently sit 3 point from safety at 18th position.

Yet do Wigan have more to play for than just a way to save their season? Could lifting the FA Cup help lift them out of the relegation zone?

It seems unlikely, but a win at Wembley could spur Wigan to perform the impossible and win their remaining league ties. They have done it before.

This will also be an emotional return for Dave Whelan, who suffered a serious injury during the 1960 FA Cup Final at Wembley.

As all underdogs do, it seems that Wigan may have the most desire to lift the cup out of the two sides.

But will City's quality be too much for them to handle?
