Can Wigan escape relegation again?

After their impressive victory over West Brom at the weekend, it seems Wigan are plotting a late surge for survival. Surely, the Latics can not perform the great escape for the fourth time?

A few games ago, it seemed like there was only one other Premiership club set to join QPR and Reading in the Championship next season- Wigan Athletic.

Although not yet set in stone, the gap between the Latics at 18th and the 17th position looked just too big. Yet over the last two games, that has all changed.

After holding off Spurs for a 2 - 2 draw, Wigan went and beat West Brom away on Saturday. It has definitely put the cat amongst the pigeons at the foot of the Premier League table.

Roberto Martinez and his men now sit 3 points behind the three clubs above them, but have a game in hand. A victory against Swansea tonight will see them lifted out of the relegation zone.

The team that they will push that will take their place in the bottom three are Newcastle United- a team that seem to be sliding down the table with every game that goes by.

However, it is not just the North-East club that needs to be weary of Wigan's form. Everyone from Stoke (11th) down will be developing very sweaty brows over the next 12 days.

As with most season's in the Premier League, it looks like the relegation battle will go down to the last day.

The busy schedule that lays ahead for the Latics may work against them. They have four games, including the FA Cup Final, between today and the 19th May.

Yet, looking at their current run of form and history, you would not bet against them.

Whether they can perform another great escape remains to be seen, but it is going to be an exciting climax to the season.
