WWC Match Review: Germany vs Ivory Coast

The Ivory Coast took part in their first ever Women's World Cup match yesterday. The newcomers were greeted with an inform German side but no one predicted this type of result.

Going into the game Germany looked to be favourites due to their previous World Cup triumphs and their recent in form games.

It appears the reputation preceded them with the Germans beating the Ivory Coast 10-0. Despite the initial fight from the side it appeared that their defence could not handle the power of Germany.

Celia Sasic and Anja Mittag looked to be on top form after putting the Germans 5-0 up within the first 35 minutes. But the Ivory Coast were able to hold their own up to the 45th minute and almost came close to scoring late on in the half.

The key to the game as well as playing style looked to be fitness and it was clear that the Germans had worked on that side of the game in order to combat the Ivory Coast. The system worked as the top ranked FIFA side put another 5 past their opponents in the final 25 minutes.

Clementine Toure (Ivory Coast manager) stated that the team must "learn from this" as they play fellow new comers Thailand in their next game which they will see as a must win game. The German side will play fellow European side Norway in their next match.
