Was Ozil the best signing of the summer?

As the German playmaker is being mourned in Madrid and welcomed with utter adoration by Arsenal fans, could he be the best signing a Premier League team has made this summer?

After months of criticism Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board made a record-breaking signing of a truly world-class player - when German playmaker Mesut Ozil put pen to paper in the final moments of the summer transfer window.

Wenger had finally silenced his critics who claimed he had no intention of making a proper signing this summer and was just toying with fans. However with the recruitment of Ozil, the fans and club were "reunited".

Obviously due to the international break, fans of The Gunners and Premier League will have to wait awhile until the see the 24 year-old in action.

Although Arsenal have been one of the least busiest clubs during the window, the £42.5m the paid for Ozil's services did make them the Premiership's fifth biggest spenders. But could the capture of the German from Real Madrid prove to be the best bit of business by a Premier League team this summer?

Obviously there has been some tremendous signings this summer - notably from Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham - but Ozil has had an unmatched positive effect around the Emirates compared to any of the other new signings.

It remains to be seen what he can do on the pitch this season. But a midfield trio of Santi Carzola, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil will strike terror into a defence in any team in the world.

In many people's book, the addition of Mesut Ozil have transformed to Arsenal from 5th / 6th place strugglers to true title contenders...
