Mourinho one step closer to Chelsea return

Real Madrid confirmed that Jose Mourinho will leave the club at the end of the season, opening the door even further for Chelsea to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

For the past few months, we have speculated over whether Jose Mourinho will be returning to the Premier League with Chelsea or not.

It now seems it is more of a 'when' than an 'if'- after Real Madrid announced that the Portuguese will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

President Florentino Perez revealed at a press conference yesterday, "We've decided to bring our relationship to an end. Nobody has been sacked, it's a mutual agreement."

Mourinho will take the helm for his final two games as Real Madrid manager on 26 May and 1 June.

For many, his departure from the Spanish club means Chelsea are one step closer to reuniting with Mourinho.

As Real have agreed to end the contract with Mourinho prematurely, Chelsea will not have to pay any release clause for Jose's signature.

Rafael Benitez finished his tenure with The Blues on Sunday, meaning Abramovich is now in the hunt for a long-term replacement in order to bring some stability to The Bridge- Mourinho has looked the obvious choice for months.

Odds on favourite to replace Mourinho at Madrid is ex-Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, who has asked to leave Paris St. Germain.

If the Italian is allowed to leave PSG, many see Benitez as an ideal replacement.

This Summer could see a managerial merry-go-round like no other we have seen before...
