Top 5 Players of the Season, so far?

From proven stars like RVP to absolute bargain deals (Michu), this season has been rife with individual talent. Here, we list our Top 5 players of the season, so far.

Until a few weeks ago, Robin Van Persie looked odds-on favourite for the Player of the Season- despite stiff competition from some great players putting in some incredible displays. However, in the past six games a certain Welsh Wizard has blown that competition wide open.

Below, we take a look at five players that have stood out from the crowd and set this season alight.

Robin Van Persie

After his season last term for Arsenal, many were not too sure if the Flying Dutchman could improve. But, under Sir Alex Ferguson's guidance, Van Persie looks to be on another level. A match-winner in the truest form, Robin is this season's leading goal scorer with 19. It also seems that he will be the difference between United and City in the title race.

Gareth Bale

Is there a player in better form in the world right now than the Welsh Wizard? In his past six games, Gareth Bale has scored 8 goals- a record that, at the moment, is eclipsing Messi and Ronaldo's. What's more is that out of those goals, atleast 5 of them are contenders for goal of the season. The most important question is, however, will Spurs be able to keep him?

Juan Mata

Chelsea signed the little Spaniard for £23.5 million in August 2011. In his first season, he showed promising signs of what was to become the norm this season. At times, he and veteran Lampard have carried the Chelsea team on their own. Mata's skill and vision will be instrumental in Chelsea evolution into a more passing-focused side, next season.

Miguel Michu

Hailed by many as the bargain of the season (why not try the century), after Swansea secured the free-scoring Spaniard's services for just £2 million. Michu has been instrumental in the Welsh club's first major trophy win in 101 years- he was even involved in 3 of the goals in the final. Michu is joint third top scorer for the season, so far.

Luis Suarez

He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the Uruguayan has been simply irresistable this season. He has been great in a not-so-great Liverpool team. However, with the arrival of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea in January, Liverpool now look like an attacking team to be reckoned with. Provided they keep him, it will be interesting to see that partnership develop even further next season.

...And not forgetting, another 5 players worth a mention: Frank Lampard, Christian Benteke, Santi Cazorla, Ashley Williams, Asmir Begovic
