What has happened so far in the January Transfer Window?

The first quarter of the January 2013 tranfer window is now over. We look back on five key confirmed transfers that have taken place over the past 7 days.

The January transfer window notoriously does not get really interesting until the last couple of week, when managers begin to panic that their squad is not strong enough. However, this years transfer window have already churned out some surprising and interesting buys, with some players making an instant impact for their new club over the weekend. Below, we give you five key signings in the past 7 days- also do not forget to check back to last week's transfer predictions, to see how many we have got right so far.

Daniel Sturridge

Chelsea to Liverpool, £12 million- The England international had struggled to find his place in the Chelsea starting line-up since signing from Man City in 2009. Liverpool took no time in reinforcing their striking line up, signing Sturridge on 2 January- and they were rewarded when Sturridge scored in their FA Cup tie at the weekend.

Joe Cole

Liverpool to West Ham, Free- Joe Cole returned to the club where he started his career on 4 January on an 18 month contract, to the delight of the Hammers faithful. Cole and West Ham fanatics have both described it as a "homecoming". The midfielder set up two goals for Collins at the weekend.

Mathieu Debuchy

Lille to Newcastle, £5 million- Alan Pardew signed the Frenchman on 4 January for £5 million. The 27-year-old has been slated as a versatile player, able to play at right back and as play-maker. Debuchy is yet to make an appearance for the Magpies. Pardew has promised the fans more transfers, following their FA Cup drubbing by Brighton at the weekend.

Demba Ba

Newcastle to Chelsea, £7.5 million- The Senegalese goal machine's buy-out clause was initiated by The Blues on 4 January, following months of spectulation. The move has definitely strengthened his new sides attacking prowess, whilst doing the complete opposite for his old club, Newcastle. Ba scored twice on his debut for Chelsea at the weekend.

Marouane Chamakh

Arsenal to West Ham, Loan- The Moroccan international is not held in very high esteem by the Gunners faithful. Nor is he by Jack Sullivan, the son of West Ham's owner David Sullivan- the lad took to twitter to display his anguish at the signing of Chamakh. The 28-year-old has been signed on loan from Arsenal on a 6 month contract.
