Bradford Pull Off League Cup Shock

League Two side, Bradford City beat Arsenal in penalties, to claim one of the greatest League Cup shocks ever. Read the match report here.

Premier League great Arsenal were beaten in the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup by lowly League Two side Bradford City tonight, in what many are calling the biggest League Cup shock ever. A strong Arsenal team were beaten on penalties 3 - 2, after narrowly avoiding defeat in normal time.

Unexpectably Wenger fielded an experienced side, only making three changes from the starting line-up from the weekend. The London side started the strongest- with both Varmaelen and Lukas Podolski spurning early chances. However, it was the Bantams that took the lead in the 16th minute through a Garry Thompson volley. Bradford went on to dominate the remainder of the first half.

The second half began in a scrappy fashion. The Gunners, however, soon took control of the game and dominated possession- although, their passing left a lot to be desired at times. The hosts looked set to make the semi-finals in normal time, until Varmalen scored a crucial header with two minutes remaining.

Extra-time provided no resolution to the game. So it was up to penalties to decide the victor- Bradford had won their past eight!

The famous win was sealed through successful efforts from Nathan Doyle, Gary Jones and Alan Connell. Whilst Cazorla, Chamakh and Varmaelen all missed their spot kicks for Arsenal.

Bradford's boss, Phil Parkinson has hailed his sides win as "tremendous".
