Capital One Cup Final: Attack vs Counter

The league cup final was a showdown between two very eager to win sides. But the difference in philosophy proved to be Spurs undoing, with the Blues coming out on top.

Ahead of the match both teams choose to keep their cards close to their chest and gave nothing of the their team selections away.

Chelsea had the slight advantage in the fact that they had a week's break before the big match. Unlike their rivals Tottenham who had to play in the Europa League in mid-week.

Starting the game Mourinho surprised many with his line up after choosing 20 year-old Zouma to play CDM alongside Ramires as both Matic and Mikel were unavailable. Spurs choose a very similar line up the one that beat Chelsea 5-3, knowing that having done it before it could be possible again.

The opposing philosophies chosen by the managers was an interesting point of the game with Mourinho setting up his team to allow Spurs to come on to Chelsea and hit them on the counter using the pace of players like Willian and Ramires. However, Spurs were happy to play up the field against Chelsea with Erikson and Chadli able to show off their attacking prowess (both came close to scoring).

Over the course of the game Chelsea's tactic came out on top after they scored two goals to win the trohpy (one right at the end of the first half).

The win signalled Mourinho's first trophy since returning to Chelsea.
