USA vs Azerbaijan review

Yesterday the USMNT played Azerbaijan in the Candlestick park in San Francisco. With a 2-0 win we take a look at whether the US are ready for the World Cup.

Last night the USA beat Azerbaijan 2-0 in San Francisco. In one of the USA's warm up games before the World Cup.

After Landon Donovan (USA's last No10) was left out of the World Cup squad, the USA fans were looking for whoever was next to wear the No10 jersey to produce something special. They were not left disappointed after Mix Diskerud injected pace and passion into the game as well as scoring a goal (When he came on as a sub in the 77minute).

Worryingly the captain Clint Dempsey was injured before the game and was replaced by Chris Wondolowski. Wondolowski played alongside Jozy Altidore which suited his play style of being close to a tall striker. Although he missed a few chances which proved he needs more international experience before the World Cup.

With some bad defending from Azerbaijan, USA midfielder Aron Johansson scored the USA's second goal in the 81st minute.

Overall the USA's performance wasn't too exciting but it was the first time this groups of players had played together since November. Klinsmann and his men know there will be much improvement needed ahead of the World Cup especially if the USA are to make it out of a group which consists of Germany, Portugal and Ghana.
