England vs Germany preview

Three years and four months after losing 4 - 1 to our German rivals in the last World Cup, The Three Lions will take on Germany at Wembley this evening. What can we expect from this fixture?

It was some three years and four months ago that England were knocked out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in an embarrassing 4 - 1 defeat by Germany, but the memory still remains fresh in most Three Lions fans' mind.

Tonight, England will play host to their old foes in the second friendly of the international break. Roy Hodgson's men lost the first game against Chile on Friday.

England enter the game tonight as firm underdogs against a German squad labelled by some as a "Golden age". But how exactly will our players measure up against their German counterparts?

On paper and to a man, Germany's talent eclipses that of England's. However, no fixture riles the nation's players up like those against Germany.

Although noone is expecting England to outclass Germany, what fans do expect to see is the passion that has been considered lacking for many years now.

If England are to get anything out of this game, it will be because they have played mostly with their hearts rather than their feet.

This is wishful thinking, however. In truth, what we should expect is a masterful display from our opponents that could expose England's flaws to the watching world.
